Town Location and History

Šibenik is town situated about half way between Zadar and Split. Šibenik was build around fortress of St. Mihovil. The town has famous cathedral of St. James that was built of stone. The construction of the building lasted more than 100 years from 1430. to 1555. Stones that were used to build it were being brought from islands of Korčula, Brač, Rab, and Krk. One of the architects was Juraj Dalmatinac.

There are many interesting sites for tourists to see in and around Šibenik, such as and fortress of St. Mihovil in Šibenik, and fortress of St. Nikola out of Šibenik. From fortress of St. Nikola, there is a nice pathway for walking along the channel towards Šibenik, where people can enjoy a nice stroll and view of the town from the south.

In its vicinity, Šibenik has several beautiful tourist resorts and towns. These include, to the west of Šibenik, Vodice and Tribunj, and to the east of Šibenik, Brodarica, Krapanj, Žaborić, and Grebaštica, as well as famous Solaris Holiday Resort, which is interesting to tourists as one of the finest places for vacation on the Adriatic Sea. Solaris is about six kilometers away from Sibenik. The resort is located right at the Adriatic coast, with island of Zlarin and several smaller islands in front of it. In addition to its clean blue-flag sandy beaches, it offers swimming pools and wellness facilities to guests.
